As we age, the process of restoring and creating new cells in the body slows down as a result of “telomeres” - the end of the chromosome - shrinking every time the body has to repair various systems. Today, we invite you to learn more about “telomeres”, which is the key to slow down aging. Unlock the secrets to lengthening telomeres with NAD+ Therapy here.
How can telomeres slow down aging?
- Learn more about telomeres: the ultimate trick to slowing down aging
Telomeres are the end parts of the chromosomes and play an important role in protecting the chromosome and genetic material within it from being destroyed or from damage that could result in genetic abnormalities during cell division. In the human body, cell division occurs on a daily basis to repair deteriorated organs for normal functioning, which therefore means that telomeres will shorten everyday as well. When telomeres become shorter, this causes our body to age, making us more susceptible to various diseases than usual.
- Average length of telomeres for each age group
From a study on average telomere length in the human body, an average of 25-200 base pairs (bp) of chromosomes are lost per cell division, and progressively reduces as we age.
- At 20 years of age, telomere length is at an average of 8 kilobases
- At 50 years of age, approximately 7 kilobases remain
- At 100 years of age, 4 kilobases remain
If telomeres are shortened to a critical point (Hayflick limit), cells in the body will be unable to divide, resulting in cell deterioration (Replicative senescence) or cell death, and accordingly premature skin aging problems and various illnesses.
What causes telomeres to shorten faster than usual?
Not everyone is born with the same amount of telomeres and also depends on parents’ genetics. Telomere length at birth starts at approximately 10,000 base pairs (bp) and progressively shortens with age as well as lifestyle factors that can inflict cell damage or inflammation in the body such as drinking alcohol, smoking, accumulated stress, insufficient sleep or exercise, and eating unhealthy food. Where the body will work to repair and restore itself according to its natural mechanisms which in turn, results in a shortened telomere length.
NAD+ to Preserve Telomere Length: A Shortcut to Slowing Down Aging
NAD+ is a coenzyme that helps repair cells and DNA. It helps to protect telomere length which has an anti-aging effect, where it inhibits cell deterioration in the body that occurs with age and daily lifestyle. NAD+Therapy therefore plays an important role in helping to promote the overall functioning of our body at a cellular level as follows:
- Activation of the Sirtuin enzyme to protect telomere length and genetic material (DNA) in the chromosomes so that cells can continue to divide themselves
- Repair and reduce deterioration of cells
- Restoring the functioning of the nervous system and brain
- Increase energy production for various cells in the body.
