Our body contains various large and small systems that play different roles in maintaining the balance of different aspects within the body each day, where the lymphatic system is one of these. Although a small aspect within the circulatory system, the lymphatic system is a significant contributor to future overall health.

Get to know the main functions of the lymphatic system

The lymphatic system is an intermediary between two other systems: the circulatory system and the immune system; these three systems combined are an indicator of our overall health. The lymphatic system is comprised of:

  • Lymphatic Organs: responsible for helping to create various types of white blood cells in order to eliminate viruses and foreign substances
  • Lymph/Lymphatic Fluid: circulates within the system and penetrates the capillary walls to serve as a medium for transporting nutrients
  • Lymphatic Tube: acts as a vitreous tube and is distributed among various organs throughout the body

Metaphorically speaking, the lymphatic system resembles a boxer that is ready to fight off germs and various foreign substances that have come to challenge for the championship belt. The main function of the lymphatic system is that it contains lymph nodes which are the source of production of lymphocytes and other immune cells sent throughout our body via the lymphatic vessels - a system that circulates in one direction due to a valve that prevents backflow of blood, with approximately 700 lymph nodes distributed in various parts of the body.

The lymphatic system is very important to the body particularly in strengthening the immune system. In addition to consuming nutritious food and getting enough rest, we can boost the lymphatic system with massage to help encourage drainage, reduce bloating, and restore fluid balance in the body for improved immunity.

In addition to lymphatic drainage massage to boost the lymphatic system and strengthen immunity, adding vitamin C to the body is another way to restore or improve the immune system.
